Combatting My Struggles

Walking through the corridor at school,

Faces peering on to me everywhere,

Just because I was wearing my hijab,

Why are people so cruel,

I’m trying to follow my beliefs,

And follow Allah’s command and please him,

The words, the whispers, little did they know how I feel,

Pressure, pressure, and pressure being dumped on me,

Can this day get any more grim?

I am a Muslim girl,

Not all of me you will see,

It’s a choice I make for free,

But what society nowadays says,

“Are you oppressed?”

“Are you forced to put it on?”

Even people I am surrounded by,

Influence me in the worst of ways,

I just play along, even if I just want to cry,

They tell me to listen to this music, wear this oufit,

However, I know this dunya is a test full of trials,

Allah is always on my side,

I try to find friends as I go,

Who guide me and remind me,

Comfort me when I am low,

Dua and prayer is always the correct answer,

All this is because my Lord, the most merciful, loves me,

He knows my future, and everything happens for a reason,

So, I am not alone, even in the most difficult times,

This is all a test, to please Allah
