A Hijabi's Conversation

Do you think you will wear a hijab when you grow up? Well, read on below to find out what these girls think!

Five girls, named Ruqaya, Fathima, Hasna, Umaima and Salma, (they are all Muslim) were talking. What do you think they were talking about? If you said hijabs then you are correct (I think you guessed by the title☺)! Anyway, yes, they were talking about hijabs and discussing if they were going to wear them when they are older.

“Are you going to wear hijab when you are older? I’m not because my mum does not wear it,” said Ruqaya, wanting to know her friends’ opinions. “Oh, well I haven’t really made my mind up yet,” Fathima replied (she was always a little quiet). Hasna, obviously eager to share her opinion, responded, “My mum does wear hijab, but I don’t want to wear it because I think it will be too uncomfortable.” Umaima pondered this before adding, “Well, my mum wears hijab so I want to wear it too.” On the other hand, Salma, who was the cleverest of the bunch said, “My mum does not wear hijab, but I would love to wear hijab because the prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said: “Modesty is a branch of faith”, so we should cover up and not expose ourselves to anyone else.” The girls were listening carefully now so she carried on, “Allah told us to wear modest clothes and not transparent ones, otherwise we reveal ourselves to outsiders. He (PBUH) said we can only be modest if we are modest in our actions as well. That is why I would like to wear hijab and encourage others, as well as my mum, to wear it and please Allah.”

Once Salma had finished, she could see that her friends had listened carefully as smiles spread across their faces and then Ruqaya spoke, “You are so inspiring Salma, I might want to wear a hijab when I am older and please Allah as well. If I do, inshaAllah, I want you to get the reward.” Salma saw the rest of her friends nodding and agreeing with 'yeah's and 'me too's and her heart filled with happiness. This was probably the best day of her life!

Who do you agree with? Personally, I agree with Salma, I want to please Allah and listen to the prophet Muhammed (PBUH).

MY STORY

Ok, so now I have told you that story, I am going to tell you my story.

I started wearing a hijab when I was around eight or nine, but I only started wearing it when I saw how nice my mum looked whenever she wore it. This made me really want to try. I don’t wear a hijab to school but I want to when I begin secondary school. Now I wear it whenever I go out or go to after-school classes. Sometimes I take it off but that is ok to start with. Once I am older I will have to keep it on - and maybe do less running around.

I didn’t know how to put on my hijab at first, so my mum put it on for me, but soon, I found my own style and tie it myself. When I began to wear it, I only wore it for special occasions, but after a while, I got used to it and now I wear it whenever I go out.

It is hard sometimes in front of people, but we have to stay strong and keep going to please Allah!

I AM NOT AFRAID TO STAND ALONE
