Have I invested enough?

Everything we have in life is a blessing: the time we spend, the wealth we enjoy, and the health we ignore. The ultimate test Allah has fixed for us is whether we can trade all those blessings for Allah’s happiness and contentment. But it’s not that simple; it’s a business that we need to do with intelligence. It is the difference that separates a smart businessman from a foolish one, because the price tag for each and every thing is not the same. You have to think about when, which, and how much to trade off each blessing.

For example, you can trade your time in worship that would earn you good deeds, which might earn the happiness of Allah. But if you trade your time for knowledge and you worship with understanding, then it multiplies the reward many times and earns you something that you could not have imagined without investing your time in knowledge. Similarly, you might invest everything in knowledge but not invest anything in health, which might cut short your lifetime and render all your knowledge useless.

So, the ideal trader is the smart person who trades everything, who would give up everything finally to achieve the maximum amount of pleasure from Allah. We tend to ignore some blessings more than others, and health is a prime example of this in our society and our community today. We often see people who are highly gifted and blessed people in many other ways, who have to take leave from us prematurely, before they could use their blessings to the maximum, because they didn’t invest enough in health.

So, have I invested enough in health?

I know for most of us, including me, the answer will be similar.

So, have I invested enough in my health?

Shall we ask these questions to ourselves?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to stand long hours, praying at night?

Would I be able to fast for long days, without tiring at work?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to earn more good wealth?

Would I be able to lead more good people?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to study more of His Book?

Would I be able to think more of His signs?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to save a life from drowning?

Would I be able to protect someone from oppression?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to be patient in trials?

Would I be able to stand firm for justice?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to survive when I lose my comforts?

Would I be able to serve when I lose my comforts?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to live longer to be more active in this trade?

Would I be able to pass more of my blessings to the next generation?

If I had invested more in my health...

Would I be able to make Allah more pleased?

I definitely would, and I need to invest more in my health..

A reminder for me and you.
